Two women identified in the record as Mrs. Thos. D. Schall and Mrs. Eugene Drendome appear alongside Vice President Thomas R. Marshall, who is shown delivering the electoral vote. The scene belongs to the early 1921 certification of the 1920 presidential election, the first national contest held after the Nineteenth Amendment took effect in August 1920 and gave women across the country the vote. The record's date of January 24, 1921 is unverified, though the joint session that counted the electoral votes met on January 6 of that year. The photograph is a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded public life in the capital during these years.
