Two vessels from different eras share this view of the Detroit River: the steamship North Land and the sailing ship Three Brothers. The river forms the boundary between Michigan and Ontario, and in the early 1900s it carried a steady flow of steamers and freighters alongside older sailing craft. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative sometime between 1900 and 1915, produced many waterfront scenes for travel promotion, so the picture also shows how the river was presented to visitors of the period.
