The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's centenary pageant, held in Baltimore from September 24 to October 8, 1927, is the event this color poster advertises. The B&O received its charter in 1827 and is generally regarded as the first common carrier railroad in the United States, so the anniversary gave the city and the company a reason to look back at their history. The poster was printed by the Acme Lithograph Company in New York, and its subject tags point to the locomotives that were central to the celebration. Anniversary pageants like this were popular in the 1920s, when cities and businesses marked milestones with parades and exhibitions.
