Bladensburg, a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, just northeast of Washington, D.C., is the subject of this 1871 view of its Baltimore and Ohio Railroad station. The station sat on a line that carried passengers and freight between Baltimore and the national capital, so it was a working stop on one of the region's main rail routes after the Civil War. The record credits the photographers as Cushings & Bailey and Hagadorn Brothers, but notes that this attribution is unverified and comes from an old caption card. The picture is a useful glimpse of how a railroad depot looked in a rural Maryland community during Reconstruction-era rail expansion.
