Few American railroads can claim a founding as early as the Baltimore and Ohio's, and this 1927 poster advertises the pageant that marked its centenary in the company's home city, held from September 24 to October 8. Chartered in 1827, the B&O was among the earliest common carrier railroads in the United States, and the locomotives pictured here point to the steam engines that carried that history forward. The color lithograph was produced by the Acme Lithograph Company of New York, a typical example of the promotional posters used to draw crowds to civic celebrations in the 1920s.
