The new courthouse in Miami stood in a town that had been incorporated only about a decade earlier, in 1896, which gives this view its quiet sense of civic ambition. The Albertype Company of Brooklyn, known for photomechanical reproductions of photographs, produced the print, and it carries the copyright of J.N. Chamberlain of Miami. It was also reproduced on page 5 of *Glimpses of Miami, Florida*, a booklet of local views meant to show visitors and newcomers the growing city. Photogravures like this one were valued for their soft tonal range, which suited architectural subjects.
