This 1909 photograph shows the Anthony Holmead house near the corner of 23rd and S Streets in Washington, D.C., a residential stretch of the city's northwest quadrant. In the early twentieth century, this part of town was filling with large houses and rows of homes as streetcar lines brought new residents up from the older core. Photographs of individual houses from this period are useful for tracing how neighborhoods looked before later rebuilding, and this one records a single family home at a moment of rapid change in the capital.
