This photograph shows the north side of G Street at its intersection with 6th Street in Washington, D.C., with the camera apparently facing east, though the record marks that direction with a question mark. It belongs to the Library of Congress's Washington street survey, a series of images made around 1900 to 1905 to document the city's streets block by block. Because the caption card data is old and unverified, the exact date and orientation are uncertain. Still, the set is valuable for showing how the L'Enfant grid's streets, buildings, and street life looked in the early twentieth century.
