Titled as a view overlooking the camp, this c1910 photograph shows Piegan people, members of the Blackfoot Confederacy of the northern Plains, in traditional dress. Edward S. Curtis made it for *The North American Indian*, where it appears in volume 6, page 26. Curtis aimed to document Native life across the continent before what he believed were vanishing traditions were lost, and his photographs often arranged subjects and clothing to evoke earlier times. The picture is valuable both as a record of Piegan dress around 1910 and as an example of Curtis's choices about how the past should look.
