This lithograph stands apart from the other pictures on the board by focusing on a single building type, the purpose-built movie theater, at a time when cinemas were drawing large new crowds. It is plate 1 from *A Modern City*, a portfolio of designs by the French architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, and it was published in London by Benn Brothers. Mallet-Stevens was a leading figure in modernist architecture in Paris during the 1920s, and his geometric, stripped-down forms reflect the period's fascination with the machine age. Notice the bold planes and sharp lines that give the design its clean, forward-looking character.
