Eddie Grant was a third baseman for the New York Giants, and this glass negative from the Bain News Service shows him in his New York National League uniform. Grant played in the majors from 1910 until he was killed in action in France in October 1918, serving as an infantryman with the 77th Division during World War I. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers, documented ballplayers and other public figures in these years, so the picture offers a close look at the Giants of the early 1910s. The date of 1914 comes from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research rather than from the negative itself.
