Few recruiting posters of the First World War put the appeal so directly in a woman's voice as "Women of Britain say - Go!" The slogan addressed men through the women in their lives, a theme that ran through British recruiting campaigns. The record credits the design to E. Kealey, and this color lithograph was printed by Hill. It dates from the voluntary recruitment drive that ran in Britain before conscription began in 1916, when officials relied on public pressure to bring men into the armed forces. Posters like this one show how families and communities were enlisted in that effort.
