This view zeroes in on the structure of a bridge deck, with its eye-bar links shown in close oblique detail, rather than on the garden landscape around it. Eye-bar chains were a common way to build iron suspension and truss spans in the late 1800s, prized for their strength and for being easy to fabricate and assemble on site. Pictures like this one were often made to document how a structure was built, so the viewer can follow how the pieces connect and carry load. Standing in a park known for its ornamental lagoon and footbridges, the image shows the practical engineering that kept those crossings working for park visitors.
