Built around August von Mackensen, the German field marshal who led the combined Central Powers army that overran Romania, this 1918 color lithograph presents the campaign as a triumphal march, with eagles among its listed subjects. Romania had joined the Allies in August 1916, and Mackensen's forces entered Bucharest that December, occupying much of the country for the rest of the war. The poster appeared in the conflict's final year, when German propaganda leaned on earlier victories to sustain morale, and the Treaty of Bucharest in May 1918 imposed harsh terms on Romania. It shows how the campaign was packaged for home audiences.
