Its German title, *Was England will!*, translates as "What England wants!", and the subjects listed for the poster point to its argument: British airplanes over German factories and the damage they left behind. Issued in 1918, the last year of the war, it belongs to a body of German propaganda that presented British air raids on industrial towns as attacks on ordinary life rather than on the war economy. Tschirch's color lithograph was aimed at a home front short of the materials and labor the war demanded, which gave the factory a symbolic role as a sign of national endurance. Its origin in the Rehse collection of war-era publicity makes it a useful record of how the conflict was argued at home.
