Few wartime posters pair a president's words with a magazine illustrator's work quite like this one, which carries Woodrow Wilson's call to "comradeship in the Red Cross" above an illustration by Harrison Fisher. Fisher was one of the most popular illustrators of the era, known for polished, idealized images of American women that appeared widely in magazines and advertising. The American Red Cross used such artists during the First World War to reach a broad public with appeals for membership, volunteers and funds. The lithograph was printed in New York by the American Lithographic Company in 1918.
