The poster asks its viewer a direct question, "Will you send them wheat?", and pairs it with a bayonet, a reminder that the grain was framed as a matter of supply for troops at the front. Produced in 1918 for the U.S. Food Administration under Herbert Hoover, it belongs to a wartime campaign that urged Americans to cut back on wheat at home so more could be shipped to Allied armies and to hungry civilians in Europe. Harvey Dunn, the illustrator credited here, was among the artists who worked for the government's Division of Pictorial Publicity, and his work reflects how wartime posters tried to tie everyday household choices to the fighting overseas.
