Concord's Old Bridge crosses the Concord River, and the crossing is tied to the start of the American Revolution, since the skirmish at the North Bridge on April 19, 1775, was fought here. By around 1900, when this color print was made, the town drew tourists interested in Massachusetts's revolutionary past. The Detroit Publishing Company produced the image as a photochrom, a color process that gave photographs a painted, luminous look that travelers and souvenir buyers prized. The print comes from a catalog album the company kept in its office, so it shows the view as the firm offered it to customers.
