This photograph shows the Connecticut State Capitol in Hartford, the building that serves as the seat of the state government. Its construction began in 1872 and it was completed in the late 1870s, after a design by Richard M. Upjohn, a New York architect. The building's gilded dome and its mix of Gothic and Renaissance details made it one of the most recognizable public buildings in New England. The image dates to about 1907, when the building was already a fixture of the city's skyline.
