Few ballparks were torn down as quickly as the Palace of the Fans, the Cincinnati Reds' home from 1902 until the team moved out after the 1911 season. This Bain News Service negative shows crews taking apart the old grandstand in Cincinnati, Ohio, in mid-November 1911, as the wooden structure gave way to a new park. Bain's photographers covered news events across the country, and the collection preserves such scenes of changing city landmarks. The picture is worth a look for its record of how quickly early twentieth-century ballparks could be dismantled and replaced.
