The Cincinnati National League ball club, known in 1909 as the Reds, is the subject of this glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs assembled by the Bain News Service in New York. The title comes from caption information the service wrote on the negative or its card, which the Library of Congress notes has not been independently verified, so the exact occasion and players are not recorded here. The team was then one of the oldest franchises in the National League, and Cincinnati's ball club had long been a point of civic pride.
