Joe Tinker, who also managed the club that season, sits in the bottom row of this 1913 Cincinnati National League portrait beside pitcher Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown. George Grantham Bain's New York agency, Bain News Service, made glass-negative pictures like this to supply newspapers with images of teams and people in the news. The caption names several players in the middle and bottom rows, but others and the batboy remain unidentified, and a few names carry question marks, so the record shows the limits of what was later confirmed. Team portraits of this kind were common at the time, and the glass plate preserves fine detail in the uniforms and lineup.
