Four Cincinnati National League pitchers share this glass negative, with Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown, the veteran who had starred for the Chicago Cubs before joining the Reds, pictured among them. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made and captioned the image, and its original caption cards spell two surnames differently from the modern record, with "McIntyre" and "McNanus" in place of McIntire and McManus. The date and identifications come from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research, so the spellings are worth keeping in mind when checking names against other sources. The negative's small format reflects how press photographs of ballplayers were routinely made and distributed in the early 1910s.
