Philadelphia's wartime factories depended on large amounts of water, and this silkscreen poster makes the case for conserving it in blunt terms: war industry needs water, so use it wisely. The Philadelphia Council of Defense sponsored the piece, and a handwritten note credits artist Glenn Pearce under the Federal Art Project, the New Deal program that employed artists to produce posters for public agencies. A January 1943 date stamp on the front suggests it stayed in circulation well after its 1941 creation, while defense production was expanding across the region. It shows how ordinary household and workplace habits were tied to the war effort.
