Wilbur and Commander N.H. Wright are named in this April 18, 1924, negative, though the record does not say who Wilbur was or what brought the two men together. The plate came from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that worked from the early 1900s into the 1930s and recorded many officials, visitors, and public occasions in the capital. Herbert A. French gave the glass negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Viewers should note that streaks and other blemishes may appear on the plate, a result of the natural deterioration of its original coating.
