This view shows the Washington Asylum Hospital, the city's public hospital for the indigent sick, photographed on March 16, 1915. The title comes from the National Photo Company's own notes and is not independently verified, but the date and subject match the company's work recording Washington's public buildings and streets in the 1910s. The picture survives as an 8 by 6 inch glass negative, and the faint streaks and blemishes visible in it are typical of deterioration in the original coating. Such marks are worth noticing, since they are part of the object's physical history as well as its architectural record.
