The only identifying detail in this record is the name Hoover, taken from Bain News Service caption cards and not yet verified, on a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain News Service was a New York agency that supplied news pictures to newspapers, and its glass plates document many public figures of the early twentieth century. Herbert Hoover, the subject of this board, was a mining engineer and Secretary of Commerce before serving as the 31st president from 1929 to 1933. Without a date, the occasion is uncertain, but the Bain holdings are valued for their portraits of officials and public events.
