Few views of the Statue of Liberty were taken from above, and this c1924 print is an aerial look at the monument. From the air, the copper figure stands on its island in New York Harbor, a perspective that was still unusual in the 1920s, when airplanes were only beginning to be used for photography. The statue, a gift from France dedicated in 1886 and designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, had by then become a widely recognized emblem of the city and the nation. The record also notes a copyright registration held by the Salvation Army, whose New York address appears on the entry.
