This 1917 color lithograph pairs a call to enlist with a citizens' reception for the sailors of France at Madison Square Garden, followed by an "all star bill" of entertainment. Printed in New York by the Hegeman Printing Company, it dates from the months after the United States entered the war in April 1917, when American cities staged public displays of friendship with the Allies to rally volunteers. Like many posters of the period, it uses the draw of a lively crowd and well-known performers to pull men toward the recruiting office. The print is part of the Willard and Dorothy Straight Collection at the Library of Congress.
