This lithograph asks Americans to "Answer the Red Cross Christmas roll call" with the reminder that "All you need is a heart and a dollar," a message aimed at turning holiday goodwill into membership in the American Red Cross. Artist Ray Greenleaf designed it, and the Niagara Litho. Co. of Buffalo, New York, printed it around 1918. The poster was issued under the Committee on Public Information's Division of Pictorial Publicity, the federal office that produced many wartime posters. The Red Cross's annual roll call was a membership drive, and during World War I it took on added urgency as the organization supported troops and civilians at home and abroad.
