Levi and Pat, the two figures in this tall black-and-white lithograph, are a pawnbroker and his customer from the comedy drama *On the Stroke of Twelve*, and the caption has them arguing over a bundle of clothes at the pawn counter. Lithographer Joseph Le Brandt made the design in 1899 for a production under the direction of Whitaker and Lawrence, and the U.S. Printing Co. of Cincinnati printed it. Posters like this carried touring plays to towns that rarely saw live theater, and their stock comic characters reflect the stereotypes audiences of the period expected.
