This poster presents two of New York City's municipal airfields side by side: Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn and North Beach in Queens, the site that would later become LaGuardia Airport. Floyd Bennett Field, named for the naval aviator who flew with Richard Byrd, opened in 1931 as the city's first municipal airport. The silkscreen was made under the WPA Federal Art Project, and its text credits Mayor Fiorello La Guardia and Commissioner of Docks John McKenzie, the officials who oversaw the city's aviation expansion in the 1930s. A December 1937 date stamp on the back suggests it was already in circulation by then.
