A parrot perched beside a seaplane sets this Pan American poster apart from the usual sunlit beach scenes. Pan American World Airways built its name on flying boats, and the word "Clipper" in the title recalls that pioneering era. Artist III von Arenburg created the piece sometime between 1950 and 1970, when air travel was opening to ordinary vacationers and the Caribbean was a favorite winter destination. Its saturated color and simple composition show the bold commercial style of mid-century travel advertising.
