Loewy's drawing shows the livery he designed for the presidential Boeing 707, the aircraft that became Air Force One, and the record notes that he worked on it with President Kennedy in the Oval Office during three meetings in the spring of 1962. The scheme's blue cove, white upper fuselage, and lettering were meant to make the plane instantly recognizable in photographs and on television. The title was supplied by Library of Congress staff rather than by Loewy, so it describes the subject rather than reproducing a label from the original. The drawing is one of the design papers in the Raymond Loewy Papers, which trace how a commercial airliner became a national symbol.
