Three of the best-known figures in American finance share one crayon sheet here: J. P. Morgan, Andrew W. Mellon, and John D. Rockefeller, all drawn as caricatures and dated to about 1922. Mellon was then serving as Treasury Secretary, a post he held from 1921 to 1932, Morgan led the banking house that bore his name, and Rockefeller, in his early eighties, had long since handed over day-to-day control of Standard Oil. Caricatures of tycoons were common in the 1920s, when newspapers and cartoonists often targeted concentrated wealth and its influence over politics and the economy.
