Charles H. Kabrich is billed here as "the only bike-chute aeronaut," a title that suggests a performer who combined ballooning with a parachute descent in a novel way. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, aeronauts drew crowds at county fairs, amusement parks, and city celebrations, where a balloon ascent and a parachute drop were paid entertainment as much as a feat of flight. Promoters often advertised such acts with bold claims of uniqueness, so the wording of the title is itself a clue to the showmanship of the era. The picture is worth noticing for that combination of daring and marketing.
