The California Arrow, the airship that aeronaut Roy Knabenshue flew over the grounds of the St. Louis World's Fair, was designed by Thomas S. Baldwin as a cigar-shaped gas bag with a small car slung beneath. Knabenshue's flights helped show that a steerable airship could be controlled in the air, a major goal of early aeronautics. This stereograph, copyrighted by C.L. Wasson, was made to be viewed through a stereoscope, which gave the scene a sense of depth. The card is dated about 1905, but the fair took place in 1904, so the date should be read with caution.
