The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1912 to speak for American business in Washington, is the subject of this view of its H Street headquarters. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that photographed the capital's streets and buildings for visitors and buyers, likely made the image between 1910 and 1925, when the city was filling with offices for national organizations. Look closely at the glass and you will see streaks and blemishes, the marks of coatings that have deteriorated since the plate was exposed.
