A glass negative of Dr. Hubert Work, dated March 3, 1922, this portrait captures a physician who was turning to national politics. Work, a Colorado doctor and Republican leader, was soon named to President Warren G. Harding's cabinet. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed many officials and visitors to the capital in the early twentieth century, made the image. Its glass base carries streaks and small blemishes from the natural breakdown of the original coating, which are worth noticing when viewing the image.
