Taken on February 23, 1922, this glass negative records a group of American Bar Association members posed together, one of the few firm dates in an otherwise sparse record. The National Photo Company, which worked in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, produced large numbers of such images of officials, organizations, and public events. Its negatives were often made in quick sequence, so group portraits like this one give a sense of how professional associations presented themselves in the years after World War I. The record also notes streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the original coating, which are typical of glass plates of this age.
