Saratoga Springs, the upstate New York resort town, is the subject here, and the print shows the mineral-spring culture that drew wealthy visitors there through the nineteenth century. Currier & Ives, the New York firm that produced hand-colored lithographs for a mass market from the 1830s into the early twentieth century, issued many views of fashionable resorts and cities like this one. The record dates the print only to a span between 1856 and 1907, so its exact year is uncertain. Its catalog entry in the Gale Research raisonné, number 5790, places it among the firm's documented output, and the hand coloring typical of these sheets is worth noticing in the clothing and landscape.
