This glass negative records a meeting between Herbert Hoover and a man identified only as Alexander, dated February 26, 1921. That date falls about a week before Warren G. Harding's inauguration, when Hoover, the former wartime Food Administrator and postwar relief organizer, was preparing to become Secretary of Commerce. The National Photo Company made the image, and the title and date come from unverified notes on the negative or its sleeve. Viewers should also look for streaks and blemishes, which cataloguers attribute to natural deterioration in the original glass coating.
