Taken at Quantico, the Marine Corps base in Virginia, this October 4, 1924 view shows a football game with the names Wilburn and Lejeune in its title. The Lejeune may refer to John A. Lejeune, who commanded the Marine Corps from 1920 to 1929, though the title is unverified. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio active in the 1910s and 1920s, made the glass negative, which Herbert A. French gave to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and blemishes on the plate come from deterioration in its original coatings.
