This picture pairs Gen. John A. Lejeune, the Marine Corps commandant, with a secretary named in the caption as "Wilburn," likely Curtis D. Wilbur, then Secretary of the Navy. Both attended the dedication of a stadium the record abbreviates as "C.U." on October 4, 1924. The title came from data supplied by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed public events for newspapers in the 1920s, so the names and place should be checked against other sources. Herbert A. French gave the glass negative to the Library of Congress in 1947, and its surface shows streaks and blemishes from age.
