A surgeon named C.P. Frost, identified on the negative sleeve as belonging to the 15th Vermont Infantry, is the subject of this wet collodion glass negative. The date given, 1860, predates the regiment's organization during the war, so the title and date deserve caution, since the sleeve's identification is unverified. The negative was made by photographer David B. Woodbury, who died in 1866, and it belongs to a larger set of Civil War glass negatives at the Library of Congress. Wet collodion plates required the photographer to coat, expose and develop the glass before it dried, making each exposure a demanding field process.
