This glass negative is labeled as Surgeon D.G. Rush of the 101st Pennsylvania Infantry, though the title comes from information on the negative sleeve that has not been verified. The date of 1860 also predates the regiment's 1861 organization, so the sleeve may be inaccurate on one or both points. The image was made by David B. Woodbury, who died in 1866, using the wet collodion process. That method required the plate to be coated, exposed, and developed while still wet, which meant photographers often worked from portable darkrooms in the field.
