This glass negative records a Holy Name convention held on September 21, 1924, a gathering of the Catholic men's society devoted to reverence for the name of God. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio based in Washington, D.C., made the image, and its collection documents parades, public events, and daily life in the early twentieth century. Holy Name conventions often drew large crowds of men to processions and public Masses, which makes this picture a useful record of organized religious fraternities in public view during the 1920s. Visible streaks and blemishes come from natural deterioration of the original glass coating, and the date is taken from a related negative in the collection.
