Unlike the small pocket-size tobacco cards of the era, these Turkey Red cabinets were larger, sturdier pieces, named for the cigarette brand in whose packages they were sold. The American Tobacco Company issued them in 1911 as part of its effort to attract buyers with collectible baseball images. Each card is a chromolithograph, a multicolor printing process, with hand-applied color added over the printed design. The card is preserved in the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, which documents how tobacco companies used baseball illustrations to build loyalty in the early 1910s.
