What sets this card apart is its link to the Turkey Red cigarette brand, one of the labels the American Tobacco Company used to market its products in the early 1910s. Cards like this were packed with cigarettes, where their stiff cardboard protected the smokes and gave buyers a reason to collect the set. The T3 designation places it in the Turkey Red Cabinets series of 1911, printed by chromolithography, a process that layered colored inks to produce bright, detailed images. The hand coloring added over the printed surface is worth a close look, since it shows how the finished card was touched up by hand.
