From the water of New York Bay, this view looks toward the west side of lower Manhattan, where tall office buildings rise close together along the waterfront. By about 1908, steel-frame towers were climbing well above the church spires that had long defined the city's skyline, and the financial district was growing denser and taller. The print was copyrighted by A. Loeffler of Tompkinsville, Staten Island, whose name appears on the copyright deposit. The caption details were taken from an old card and have not been verified, so the exact date and vantage point are worth checking against other sources.
